Perioperative Nursing Course - Highlights | Learn firsthand from our operating room nursing team by taking advantage of the Perioperative Nursing Course opportunities at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
The Perioperative nursing course is an 8-week program that includes basic orientation to Perioperative nursing with didactic and clinical experience in basic circulating nursing practice. Orientation to all surgical specialties begins on the ninth week and will continue for approximately seven months. A Basic Trauma Nursing Course will also be included during this period. After obtaining circulating competency, nurses will rotate through an orientation to the scrub role. | Other Highlights Include: - The program will focus on assessment, priority setting, crucial thinking.
- Clinical time spent circulating cases, while working 1:1 with a registered nurse.
- Each student and RN will share one patient assignment.
- Clinical experiences are planned to be progressive in nature.
- You’ll work in an environment that includes state-of-the-art technology and services unique to an academic medical center.
- You'll interact with colleagues from nursing, medicine and health-related disciplines.
- Continuous feedbacks will be provided from the RN, clinical nurse educators, instructors, nurse managers, and peers.
- All attendees will receive a certificate of completion to include in their professional profile.
- All nurses will participate in evaluating the program, functioning as change agents for future programs.
