Critical Care Internship Program - Highlights | This internship program emphasizes applying your knowledge to practice with regard to the nursing care of your selected patient population. In general, our interns develop clinical competence by caring for patients with acute trauma, open-heart surgery, cardiac, kidney and pancreas transplantation, pre-term neonates and complex patients. You may also have the opportunity to use complex technologies such as hemodynamic monitoring, intracranial pressure monitoring, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous venovenous hemodialysis (CVVHD) and ventricular assist devices. | Other Highlights Include - You’ll work 1:1 with a preceptor for the entire length of the program.
- Each intern and preceptor will share one patient assignment.
- The program will focus on assessment, priority setting, crucial thinking and delegation through case studies and “talk practice” sessions.
- Clinical experiences are planned to be progressive in nature.
- You’ll work in an environment that includes state-of-the-art technology and services unique to an academic medical center.
- You’ll interact with colleagues from nursing, medicine and health-related disciplines.
- Continuous feedbacks will be provided from the preceptor, clinical nurse educators, instructors, nurse managers, and peers.
- All interns will receive a certificate of completion to include in their professional profile.
- All interns will participate in evaluating the program, functioning as change agents for future programs.
- An NCLEX review course will be offered June 2-5, 2009
